Dulles, Virginia KIAD #22 US airport by passengers
In Loudoun County, Virginia, west of downtown Washington, D.C. It is reached by the Silver Line Metro, the Dulles Toll Road and the Dulles Access Road.
Dulles is a large airport designed by Eero Saarinen. It has one main terminal building, which holds ticketing, check-in, baggage claim and security, and a set of concourses that run parallel to it.
The concourses are reached by an underground train called the AeroTrain, by a walkway, or by a shuttle bus. Most transfers stay inside security, so you do not need to be screened again. Concourse E is expected to open in late 2026.
Main airlines: United Airlines is the dominant carrier, with a major hub here. Many international airlines and several low-cost carriers also operate from the airport.

The AeroTrain connects the main terminal to Concourses A, B and C, and each trip takes about two minutes. Concourse D is served by a shuttle bus from the main terminal, and Concourses C and D connect on foot. These transfers all happen inside security, so you do not need to be screened again. Concourse E is due to open in late 2026.
The Dulles station is connected to the main terminal by a climate-controlled tunnel. The walk takes about seven to eight minutes. Fares depend on the time of travel, and the station is also next to Parking Garage 1.
Silver Line Express service and hotel shuttles operate from the ground transportation level. Ask your hotel for its pick-up point before you arrive.
Taxis and shared vans run 24 hours a day from designated curbs. Uber and Lyft have their own pick-up areas on the same level.
Rental car companies are served by shuttles that leave from the ground transportation level, which also has a rest area for pets.
Yes. The AeroTrain links the main terminal to Concourses A, B and C, and the concourses link to each other by walkway or shuttle. None of these transfers require a new security check.

The Capital One Lounge sits just past TSA PreCheck, and the lounge asks only for a boarding pass with a confirmed seat assignment. Most other lounges require a ticket, status or card.
