How delays work at FLL

A ground stop holds flights bound for FLL at their origin airports. A ground delay program spaces arrivals out so the airport is not overloaded. Departure and arrival delay messages describe the average wait the FAA expects. None of these tell you whether your own flight is late, so always check your airline as well.

Local tips

  • Security is busiest from about 6 to 9 a.m. and from 4 to 7 p.m. Midday flights usually have the shortest queues.
  • If you change terminals after security, allow 20 to 30 minutes for the shuttle, and plan for a new security check if you move between Terminal 2 and Terminal 3.
  • If you are on a cruise, check which terminal your port uses; Port Everglades is only about two miles away, and cruise days bring heavy traffic to the airport.
  • Hurricane season runs from June to November, and summer afternoon thunderstorms are a frequent cause of delay.
